Memories From High School

Feel Good Songs

  • "California and Me" by Laufey reminds me of one of my best friends I made in New York City who is originally from California. It is a gorgeous song full of emotion that I could never get tired of listening to.

  • "Dirty Little Secret" by The All-American Rejects reminds me of game nights playing Guitar hero with my dad on the Nintendo Wii. I like to think playing that game with him sparked my love and deep interest in several different kinds of music.

  • "Dance, Baby!" by boy pablo reminds me of car rides with my older sister back when we were both in high school together. These car rides made me forget all my worries and let me be myself without judgement.

  • "Everybody Talks" by Neon Trees reminds me of my childhood car rides with my mom. I always loved when she drove me downtown and told me about her childhood. Our days out on the town mean so much to me, and I truly appreciate all my mother does for me.

  • "All I Ask of You" by The Phantom of the Opera film from 2004 is the song I dream of either walking down the aisle to or want to be my first dance. Studying this film and soundtrack in the beginning of my high school years helped me find my voice, and it still inspires me to this day. There are truly not enough words to describe how much it has helped me grow in my love for theatre and choir.

  • "My Funny Valentine" by Frank Sinatra reminds me of all of the wonderful times I had in an auditioned woman's choir group at my high school. We sang this song at every Valentine's Day concert. The lyrics are comedic while keeping one of the most beautiful accompaniments and melodies I have ever performed.

  • "Let Me Be Your Star" from SMASH also reminds me of my old choir. I was introduced to the song in 8th grade, and we tried to perform it every year, but we ended up scrapping the piece every time. Nevertheless, my love for the song never faded. The song is so passionate and musical theater-esque, and it is a blast to belt out.

  • "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy" by Queen is such a classic feel good song. Queen's ability to blend and harmonize so effortlessly is astounding to me, and they never fail to make quality works. This song is playful, and the storytelling comes across in such a fun way.

  • "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5 is one of my favorite songs to sing along to in my car. It reminds me of the early 2000s and my childhood. This song will automatically put you in a good mood even on the hardest days.

  • "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" by John Lennon is one of the most calming songs I've ever heard. It is a lullaby that John Lennon made for his son, and I think that is the sweetest thing. If I have kids in the future, I want to sing this song to them to calm them down.
